I saw you on the news today talking about money and movies. How do you think the meltdown will impact films? Maybe now that the studios can't borrow to make blockbusters they will return to making great small movies like My Bodyguard (one of my favs)? What do you think. Is there a blessing in the bust?

Excellent question! But there's a tail wagging the production dog: P&A (prints and ads) costs. It costs as much to advertise and strike prints of a cheap movie as for an expensive one - and they all compete for viewers. Like you, I hope there's a chance that the cost of money will open the door a little for the human-scaled film. But I'm not holding my breath.

Several things, come to think of it: technique, clarity, originality, luck, persistence, audacity, surprise, personality, and...talent. You can learn or fake the rest. But your question doesn't bode well for any of the above.

Hey Tony! Met you tonight at the book signing at Samuel French Studio City. Really enjoyed what you had to say about your book and I'm really enjoying it so far! Thanks so much for the inside, now I'll feel like a pro on set. Love the term Lewinsky. Hilarious.
P.S. I loved "Untamed Heart". Just so you know

I have just completed my second screenplay and am sending it out to friends/business contacts for opinions, comments, etc. I am also going to send it out to a script doctor for a totally unbiased opinion. I have written the query letter (for literary agent representation) and treatment. After gathering this information my next steps are to register the script and then send out the query letter for representation. Am I missing anything? What's most important to get right? I know I only have one chance to make a first impression. Thank you.

First, I wouldn't send it to friends, etc. who haven't ever read a lot of scripts. And for what it's worth - and it could be worth A LOT - I'd be wary of almost anyone who calls themselves a "script doctor". I'll be so bold, however, as to recommend one with confidence: Charles Carner (http://www.scriptrealization.com/) If he can't make it better, it's terminally ill. Otherwise, sounds to me like you're on the right track. (But be sure to read my chapter on "Submissions.") Here's a glib (but true) answer to your question, "What's the most important to get right?" The script, of course; make it great...not good. If you've done that, you can throw it out of a car on the Hollywood Freeway and it'll get discovered, if not made. Day or night. A great script glows in the dark. Good luck!
